In this course you will acquire a basic understanding of the regulations for identifying and instructing ELLs, how ELL students acquire a new language, and instructional strategies to help you get started with teaching ELL students in your class.

To receive 3 CTLE hours for this course you must complete all activities. These include watching the videos, readings, quizzes, and forum posts.


In this course you will acquire knowledge on:

  • The different theories of language acquisition
  • The five stages of language acquisition
  • The structures of language
  • The factors that affect language learning

In this course you will learn the importance of ELL family engagement and gain strategies to support that engagement.  Aspects of this course will consist of creating a welcoming environment, communicating effectively, building relationships, overcoming barriers, and empowering families.
